Stylistically this book is pitched to Christians Catholics , especially those engaged actively with their faith. However, I thought its tone and focus was a bit unbalanced in places and that the book consequently could be problematic for some readers. The book uses a lot of extended scriptural passages and ideas which God has given directly to the author. Many o Stylistically this book is pitched to Christians Catholics , especially those engaged actively with their faith.
She therefore recommends prayer and spiritual responses. However, the author also recognises that some negative thinking is not Satanic in origin, and so she provides practical aids which people can do.
She also generously provides additional resources online, including her phone number so that she can pray with people looking for help. What they should do differently in their lives is to add Jesus, not drop the doctor.
Where I think the book becomes problematic is that it oversimplifies matters at times. Yes, some fears are based on false perceptions. Sometimes people are afraid of things like losing a job, etc and they have real evidence which their fears are based on. People in that situation need a different strategy for dealing with their fears. The book is also condescending in places. In cataloguing how God has blessed her, the author also implies a basis for readers to judge themselves negatively.
For example, she narrates how she needed a car. This is where some people can start to blame themselves. If only they had more faith, or prayed harder, then they would get that cure, or car.
When people start to judge themselves negatively like that, then the book has the potential to have the opposite effect to what it is trying to achieve. This is a well known delicacy in spiritual counselling, which the book really needs to deal with. Otherwise it is leaving readers open to precisely the problems which it is trying to solve. Ultimately I thought that leaving these issues unclear, is potentially irresponsible, as they can lead to serious spiritual and psychological problems.

Wuenschel provides an important voice in the fight against mental illness in faith communities. I bought the book thinking she was Protestant, judging by the charismatic flair of her language, but no, she is actually Catholic, which made this a far more satisfying read for yours truly. I plan to re-read her chapters on healing and forgiveness regularly.

God Bless! Mar 07, Crystal Hexamer rated it it was amazing. Change your thoughts, change your life. This book is a foundational, practical guide to renewing your mind. Our thoughts become words and our words become actions. Marybeth walks you through taking your thoughts captive, understanding the word of God and applying it to your own life.
It is easy to understand, supported by scripture and is both transformative and timeless. It is a gem of a book I will use again and again. Nov 27, Brenda rated it it was amazing. Very helpful book! Even though I am not a Catholic, this book goes beyond denominational lines and is filled with truth.
Truth knows no denomination. The writer takes truths I have known for many years and presents them in such a way that they reach deep inside, into the spirit, and become a part of you. In other words, it finally "clicked"! May God bless you greatly, Marybeth, for writing this book. Sep 28, Julie Stoops rated it liked it.
Great Rambling Messages The premise of the book is great, and I learned a lot from it. It helped me see some things in a new light. My issue is that the book is incredibly repetitive and rambling and there are many distracting typos.
Still a thought-provoking read for those willing to open their minds and hearts. Jesus is King of All! Sep 24, Frederic P.

Worth reading This book provides food for the soul and an opportunity to reflect on looking at ourselves a little differently. This means that if you are under 10 years of high stress that produces negative thoughts and feelings your cells can actually age up to 60 years!
